To remove lockrings with this tool you will need a Chain Whip also.
The guide on this tool slides into the axle where you have removed the QR Skewer.
This tool works well
Fits Shimano, SRAM, SunRace, and other cassette lockrings.
Also fits Shimano disk brake lockrings.
I would have to say Shimano amazed me when they built their Disk Lockrings to match this tool.

These are a nice durable lightweight home mechanic pedal wrench.
Every Avid Cyclist Tool box should have one of these. There is nothing worse than not being able to get a tight pedal off.
Remember the left pedal is Reverse Thread. All Pedals will be marked with a L and a R.
Remember to put a daub of grease or lube on the threads of your pedals before you insert them into your cranks.
If you don’t in time the Cromolly pedal axles will weld themselves to the Aluminum Crank arms.

I believe this is the most used cutter in the Bicycle shops in the United States and for a very good reason.
